“That which you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me”
To all in need, regardless of faith. We will provide healthcare for 2,000-3,000 patients, as well as prayer, food aid, and the sacraments, all of which are far too difficult for them to receive. We are humbled that Our Lord has entrusted them to our care
Ave Maria Medical Mission is a non-profit organization, dedicated to improving the physical and spiritual lives of needy men, women and children of Guatemala. To bring them the love of Christ, along with prayers and access to the Holy Sacraments.
Our team will consist of medical and dental professionals, clargy, non-medical missionaries, translators, and family and youth missionaries from Guatemala.
Who We Serve: We seek to support the physical, spiritual, emotional, and economic development of needy families in marginalized communities in the rural areas of Escuintla and La Democracia, Guatemala through healthcare, humanitarian aid, mission work, and pastoral care. Each year we return to some of the same communities while at the same time forming relationships with new communities who need our help. We see these people as our brothers and sisters in Christ and are humbled that Our Lord has entrusted them to our care.
Who Serves Us: Our team serves together with family and youth missionaries from Guatemala and Regnum Christi groups, as well as local ground team coordinators. The areas where we serve have been selected by Bishop Victor Hugo Palma of Escuintla, Guatemala and his familiarity with these regions allows us to best serve communities most in need. The founding members of the Guatemala team have been working in these regions with the same ground team since 2003.
We have spiritual relationship with the Legionaries of Christ. These holy priests run many of the parishes that invite us to serve their communities. Our mission chaplain who travels with us each day is also a Legionary priest. He administers the sacraments and provides spiritual direction to nurture families to be closer to each other and to Christ.
Where we serve: Guatemala is in Central America bordered by Mexico, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, and the Pacific Ocean. The landscape of the country is varied with volcanic mountains, valleys, dense rain forests, and sandy beaches.
The climate in Guatemala is tropical and humid and can be divided into
two types: the dry season which extends from November to April, and the rainy season which extends from May to October. During the dry season
the temperature ranges from 60-80 degrees F, and in the rainy season it
ranges from 75-90 degrees F.
